The Apostolic presence on Whidbey Island goes back much farther and is more widespread than I can imagine, I'm sure. However, this page attempts to chronicle the events that pertain to Oak Harbor United Pentecostal Church . In particular, the events that transpired within my own discovery and calling to this island.
Angie and I saw Whidbey Island for the first time over the Memorial Day weekend in 2007. My dear friend and coworker, Brett Huntingford, began to tell me about this part of Washington when I moved to Olympia from McDonough, GA. Brett grew up in Port Townsend, WA., just across the straight from Fort Casey.
On May 27th 2007 we saw the Island for the first time as we came around the corner of the road from Fidalgo Island . We spotted the bridge which I had heard so much about. It was as magnificent as I had heard it was. The photo on the front page is one that I took at that moment.
Literally, from the moment we crossed over Deception Pass and began to drive toward Oak Harbor ...we knew. Angie and I both knew at the same time that this was the place that God had been calling us to. Thus began the process that eventually landed us here as residents on March 21st 2008.
Knowing that the possibility was very good that we would eventually plant a church here, I began a blog after our first visit. Please take a look at it and tell me what you think...
